Volunteers have been busy working nonstop during the winter preparing some new exhibits for the 2014 Tarves Heritage Museum season.

The Centenary of the First World War was the focus of research and it has produced some fascinating local information. Project volunteer, Moira Minty said: “The response to our appeal has been excellent.

“We have a collection of letters from soldiers, some of whom never made it back from the trenches. It’s heartbreaking reading about their experiences. Many of the men were farm workers in their twenties or even younger. There are still so many untold stories out there that need to be recorded for future generations.

The Museum is now open for the season and we are always keen to hear any stories or help with family history research.

A photograph has recently been discovered of injured soldiers being treated in the Haddo House Cottage Hospital but there are no names. The centre are keen to hear from anyone who might have information.

Tarves Heritage Centre is open on Thursday until Sunday, from 2pm to 4.30pm, April until October. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted.
