The Michie family have been farming at Lochend of Barra, Oldmeldrum, for around 80 years. We have an arable farm and we are also producing free range turkeys.
At Lochend of Barra we have specially selected to grow the Wirral and Hockenhull Black as these breeds love to forage naturally and when hung provide a richer flavour than other breeds. Our Turkeys are grown slowly to full maturity and enjoy roaming our fertile land where they eat natural vegetation, grass, along with a cereal based diet. We do not use hormones or other artificial growth promoters.
We take the extra effort to hand pluck each of our turkeys. This is essential to improving the flavour and texture of the meat and ensures that the most special meal of the year is a memorable one.
